New cars used by the Spanish police are equipped with Elyctis readers delivered by Kimaldi, that allow to read citizen ID cards and passports saving them the need to go to the police station, thus allowing police forces to spend more time on the field while improving the service level for citizens.
PERTUIS, FRANCE and BARCELONA, SPAIN, September 29, 2020 – National Police in Spain is in the process of being equipped with new Toyota Prius+ iZ cars that include the latest equipment to bring better service to citizens while allowing the police to make a better use of their resources. These new cars embark all the needed equipment to accomplish identity controls: they include an Elyctis ID Box One reader that is used to read Spanish ID cards (DNI – Documento Nacional de Identidad) or machine readable ePassports. This way, citizens identity can be controlled on the spot, aboard the car, saving citizens and police forces the necessity to go to the police station for a simple identity control. The new cars, equipped with Elyctis readers, have been delivered in Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, Vigo, Zaragoza, Málaga, Palma … and the government has plans to equip more cities with these new cars in 2020.
Elyctis ID Box One readers include both contact and contactless smart card readers along with an MRZ scanner enabling them to read both printed data and data in the chips from all types of documents. In Spain, all citizens are equipped with a smart card based ID card, called DNI, issued by the government. The DNI chip includes biographical information as printed on the card: surnames, name, sex, nationality and date of birth, along with a digitized photo of the cardholder and a digitized image of the cardholder’s hand signature. Thanks to Elyctis ID Box One readers and the Smart Police Systems application developed by Federal Signal Vama, the police is able to access this information and perform identity controls on the spot without requiring the controlled person to go to the police station, as it was the case before. Police cars are also equipped with a fingerprint reader for citizens to present their fingerprint allowing access to their data.
Representatives of the Police say these new cars, called “mobile police stations,” represent a quantitative leap in police patrolling as they bring increased efficiency allowing the police to devote more time to citizen security on the field.
Alexandre Joly, CEO of Elyctis, declares: “As our ID Box series readers allow to read DNI and ePassports in a single move, we are proud to see their performance recognized by the Spanish police and allowing to improve citizen services while increasing the efficiency of public resources.”
Joaquim Garcia, CEO of Kimaldi adds:
“Thanks to our established market presence with government authorities, we are able not only to help them planning the evolution of public services but also to deliver best-in-class products and provide a permanent customer support.”
